HEAD OF THE DAY
🇰🇷 Choi Soo-yeon
💡 The Woman Behind Korea’s Internet Giant: Since 2022, Choi Soo-yeon has been at the helm of Naver, South Korea’s largest internet company. At just 40, she became the youngest CEO without founder status.
📈 Under her leadership, Naver crossed 10 trillion won in revenue (7.4 billion USD) for the first time.
The company operates not only the country’s most-used search engine, but also Line, Yahoo Japan, the comic platform Webtoon, and the story app Wattpad. It also runs cloud services and its own AI model, which outperforms ChatGPT in Korean.
👉 Lesson Learned: You don’t have to be a tech guru to run a tech empire.
Choi describes Naver as a counter-model to Google and Amazon. Her message: smaller players, too, can make a global impact and drive innovation.
