📦 The E-Commerce Titan Who Bet on Logistics
Richard Liu (Liu Qiangdong) is the founder of the e-commerce giant JD.com. While his competitors opted for “asset-light” marketplace models, Liu chose the harder, costlier path — investing heavily in building a vast logistics network of his own. This gamble gave JD.com unprecedented control over its supply chain and created a commerce empire built on speed and trust.
Now he’s applying the same philosophy on a global scale: with the headline-grabbing acquisition of Ceconomy, the parent company of European electronics retailers MediaMarkt and Saturn, he secures a network of more than 1,000 stores to establish a dominant omnichannel presence in Europe.
