NUMBER OF THE DAY

That’s the share of Japanese municipalities without access to Japanese-language education for foreign workers.

🙅🏻 Nihon-no-go: In 722 out of 1,892 municipalities, there are no language schools. In affected areas, 170,455 foreigners live — up 21 % from last year.

👩‍🏫 Send a Sensei: 85% of instructors are volunteers, and 37% of them are based in the Greater Tokyo area. The share of the foreign population has grown to 3.96 million (+5% since the end of 2024).

Watch: Japan is expanding work visa programs through 2027, but its language infrastructure is lagging behind. Without nationwide access to courses, integration in rural areas risks slowing down. Well-equipped municipalities gain a competitive edge in workforce and productivity.
