NUMBER OF THE DAY

This is how sharply the number of climbers who had to be rescued on Mount Fuji fell.

🗻 Stricter rules are working: The number of climbers in distress dropped by 44% to 36 cases, with 0 deaths recorded. In 2024 there were 64 emergencies, including 6 fatalities.

💴 Higher entrance fee: Japanese authorities doubled the climbing fee for Mount Fuji to 4,000 yen (≈ 26 USD). Night climbing between 2-3 AM is now banned unless climbers have a reservation at a mountain hut.

🔎 Watch: Beyond safety, the higher fees are paying off financially. Shizuoka Prefecture alone expects to generate 400 million yen (≈ 2.4 million USD) in 2025. Combined with Yamanashi, total revenues could reach 1 billion yen (≈ 5.6 million USD).
