
Lidar is the laser sensor that lets cars and robots measure distance in 3D. In 2025 carmakers fitted 3.7 million lidar units worldwide, 3.1 million of them long-range ADAS units. The market passed USD 1 billion, up 60%.
About 95% of those sensors came from Chinese suppliers. Inside China, 3.386 million units of all types were installed, up 120.1%. Hesai alone shipped 1.143 million units into China's main lidar segment, a 41.5% share.
